Condition: 2nd Edition, attractive modern calf spine with blue morocco label, over contemporary marbled paper boards and calf-tipped corners. Tall 12mo [binding c. 20.5 x 12 cms], pp.xii, 479, front paste-down with small and very attractive modern woodcut booklabel of a seated classical female figure playing a lute [very much in the style of Vivien Gribble]. Corners and edges of boards a little rubbed or scuffed, blank lower corners of 2 leaves of index nipped away, else a very good copy.
This copy with an elegant inscription in Latin on a blank prelim presenting the book as a prize to Alexander Simpson from James Davidson for his studies in Natural History at Marischal College, Aberdeen, dated April 1839. * James Davidson was the long-serving Professor of Natural History at Marischal College from 1811 until 1841.
