'Bitter sarcasms ... cutting truths ... paradoxical & caustic'. Maxims on friendship, love, women &c, written shortly after Hazlitt's famously devastating Liber Amoris love affair. The anonymous 1st Edition of 1823 is 'very scarce' [Keynes]. This muddled copy of the 2nd Edition presumably escaped unnoticed from Templeman's premises. Includes the trimmed 2nd Edition cancel title & single-leaf 2nd Edition Preface as called for : but mistakenly also includes the 1st Edition Preface pp[v]-vii : while excluding Horne's 7pp Introduction.
