Written during the Wars Of The Roses and 'remarkable as an early attempt to show the political & commercial advantages to be obtained by securing command of the sea'. *** With the attractive bookplate of Sir George Francis Hill 1867 - 1948, Director of the British Museum and a distinguished scholar and author of a number of books on coinage and on art and sculpture. Four of the illustrations in this book show coin-like seals and medals. Hill is particularly known for his work on Renaissance medals, and in particular on the Italian 14th century artist Pisanello. Hill's elegant bookplate here incorporates a Pisanello-style medal or rondel with the words Opus Pisani Pictoris.
