Hulme's major work, issued in parts from 1878 to 1909. Each flower is illustrated with a full-page colour plate : its form and varieties are described, as are its habitat and medicinal uses. Hulme attended what is now the Royal College of Art, and subsequently taught drawing at Marlborough College and at King's College, London. In 1869 he was elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society.

Internally very bright and attractive. Each volume with 40 colour plates and 80 text illustrations [total c.280 colour plates and 560 illustrations].
