Rare : especially in the original binding as here. A piracy, but the first attempt at a Collected Edition. Ascham was 'the first to offer the London reader a nearly complete collection of Shelley's Poems. These volumes prove to be the most interesting of all the pirated editions'. Texts in general taken from the original authorised editions & are therefore the 'most fully corrected of all the pirated texts'. The complex make-up of the book, deriving from Ascham's original part-issue plan [virtually no copies in parts are known], has meant that preliminary leaves are sometimes missing. This copy, however, is complete with half-titles, separate title-pages, contents leaves &c &c: and also with the anonymous but very good Life. The frontispiece is the first published reproduction in England of the Curran portrait. See Taylor : Early Collected Editions.
Title: The Works : with a Life.
